Bartlett Dam on the Verde River northeast of Phoenix was the first multiple-arch dam built by the Bureau of Reclamation. Completed in May 1939 after flood-interrupted Depression-era construction, it stands about 287 feet high with nine hollow buttresses and ten arches. At completion it was the highest multiple-arch dam in the world. The dam and Bartlett Lake form part of the Salt River Project and are reached by paved roads with public boat ramps and campgrounds on the reservoir.
