Agua Mansa was one of a pair of Santa Ana River farm villages settled in the 1840s by families from Abiquiu, New Mexico, and was once the largest community between there and Los Angeles. The 1862 flood wrecked the west-bank town. What visitors reach today is the hilltop pioneer cemetery and a replica of San Salvador chapel, a California Historical Landmark and Old Spanish Trail certified site run by the county museum.
