USFS day-use fishing and wildlife-viewing ponds on the Valle Vidal unit of Carson National Forest—a high-elevation grassland and forest basin managed for one of New Mexico’s largest elk herds. Three ponds sit in open meadow country with short paths around the upper pond and informal routes to the lower ponds; the unit is seasonally closed on the east side (Jan–Mar) to protect wintering elk.
