Nye County, NV

Coordinate verified

Sedan Crater is the scar from the 6 July 1962 Plowshare nuclear excavation test on Yucca Flat at the Nevada National Security Site. The ~1,280-ft-wide, ~320-ft-deep bowl was meant to prove nuclear earth-moving for canals and harbors. Listed on the National Register in 1994, it is open only on official DOE/NNSA public bus tours when those run—no private drive-up access.
