Spanish colonial plaza village and Pecos River ford that anchored the San Miguel del Vado Land Grant (1794) and later the Santa Fe Trail corridor south of Las Vegas, NM. The fortress-like adobe church still faces NM 3 at the historic ford; the settlement gave San Miguel County its name and remains a field-readable land-grant / trail landscape (plaza, church, river crossing) rather than an indoor museum.
