NPS unit of Salinas Pueblo Missions National Monument north of Mountainair preserving a Southern Tiwa pueblo occupied from about A.D. 1300 and the red-sandstone walls of Nuestra Señora de la Purísima Concepción de Quarai, a 1630s Franciscan mission church abandoned with the village by the 1670s. Self-guided trails weave among the mission compound, pueblo mounds, and rare 19th-century Spanish plazuela ranch remains in the desert Salinas Basin.
