Lost Horse Mine

Riverside County, CA

Coordinate verified

One of Joshua Tree National Park’s most successful historic gold mines (operated roughly 1893–1936; reported production over 9,000 ounces of gold). A maintained NPS trail from a signed trailhead off Keys View Road leads ~2 miles one-way to the fenced mill and mine complex, with an optional longer loop around Lost Horse Mountain. The standing stamp-mill machinery and desert mountain setting make it a premier field history hike inside the park.
