About twenty miles east of Lakeside in the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests, a forested high point holds the Lake Mountain Lookout Complex. A 48-foot Aermotor LX-24 tower and associated cabin were built in 1926 and listed on the National Register in 1988. The lookout remains in active summer fire-detection service. A roughly 3–4 mile trail climbs from forest roads near Springerville to the tower site.
