Approximate location — plotted from published sources, not a site visit, and not a guarantee of access.
Northeast Clark County between Lake Mead and the Arizona line is remote Mojave country under Gold Butte National Monument. A 62-mile Gold Butte Back Country Byway leads past red and white sandstone, desert wildlife habitat, and the 1908 mining camp that gave the area its name. Hundreds of miles of designated primitive routes support hiking, horseback use, and street-legal OHV travel; amenities are few and the monument is managed for backcountry self-reliance.
Cultural sites and artifacts are protected by federal law (ARPA/NHPA) — stay on established routes, touch and remove nothing, and follow the managing agency's and the affiliated tribe's guidance on access.
