Basalt walls line Diablo Canyon Recreation Area near the Rio Grande west of Santa Fe. Eastern cliffs are BLM; western walls are U.S. Forest Service. More than a hundred climbing routes use the cracked basalt; hikers use the canyon floor and rims. Camino La Tierra / Buckman Road from Santa Fe is the way in.
Cultural sites and artifacts are protected by federal law (ARPA/NHPA) — stay on established routes, touch and remove nothing, and follow the managing agency's and the affiliated tribe's guidance on access.
