Prominent 8,400-ft granite peak of the Cookes Range Wilderness Study Area north of Deming—a landmark of the southern New Mexico desert skyline and a strenuous public-land scramble/hike on BLM terrain. Named for Lt. Col. Philip St. George Cooke of the Mormon Battalion route; NMBGMR treats it as a classic southwestern New Mexico geologic landmark.
