Badwater Basin is North America's lowest land point at about 282 feet below sea level, a broad salt pan of polygonal crusts on the Death Valley floor. A short paved walk from the parking area reaches the famous basin markers; summer heat is extreme. Part of Death Valley National Park—carry water and visit cooler months when possible.
