Argus Range Wilderness is a narrow strip of dry mountains running about twenty-eight miles along the west side of Panamint Valley, south and west of Death Valley National Park. Canyons are steep and highly dissected; remnants of historic mining appear in places. Access is via State Highways 190 or 178 and Panamint Valley Road, with four-wheel-drive spurs such as those off the Nadeau Trail system.
Cultural sites and artifacts are protected by federal law (ARPA/NHPA) — stay on established routes, touch and remove nothing, and follow the managing agency's and the affiliated tribe's guidance on access.
